Helen Rogers

My career has spanned over thirty years in healthcare. I trained as a nurse in my native Ireland and as a midwife in England. I loved working as a clinical midwife before I joined the Royal College of Midwives, first as a Regional Officer and then as Director for Wales. Throughout my career I have been interested in enabling people to reach their potential and have used informal coaching techniques to help me do so.

I recognised just how transformational these types of conversations could be and so in 2016 I decided to train as a coach with Full Circle Global and qualified as a Professional Coach in 2017. As part of my further development, I undertook training in team coaching, career coaching and wellness. I subsequently competed a Mindfulness in Coaching programme in 2022 with Tim Segaller.

All of this has enabled me to coach clients who are at many stages of their careers, from student midwives at Swansea Leadership Academy, to midwives and support workers on the Midwifery Leadership Development Programme (MLDG) which I co-founded with the Welsh Government. I have also coached senior midwives in both healthcare and education as well as working with clients from other fields. I also teach a session on coaching to third-year student midwives at Cardiff University which is very rewarding.

I am a member of the International Coaching Federation, and I am undertaking further development and training with 3D Coaching.

In partnership with Denise, I have written a chapter on the value of coaching for Respectful Relationships in the Maternity Services.

When not coaching I am a keen gardener, polytunnel owner and cook. I have rediscovered the joys of running and yoga and the physical and mental benefits that they bring. I love reading and walking by the ocean on the west coast of Ireland, a place I now call home.

Denise Linay

I began my career in nursing and midwifery and, after several years working as a clinical midwife, I joined the Royal College of Midwives (RCM). During my time there, I held a variety of roles including Regional Officer, Project Manager, Employment Relations Advisor, and ultimately Head of Organising and Engagement. It was in this senior leadership role that I came to truly understand the value of coaching—both personally and as a powerful tool for team leadership and development.

In 2019, I qualified as a Professional Coach with Full Circle Global. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of coaching a wide range of clients, from student midwives to Directors of Midwifery and Lead Midwives for Education (LMEs), as well as individuals working in other areas of healthcare and beyond.

I’m also a coach on the Midwifery Leadership Development Programme (MLDG), a joint initiative between the Welsh Government and the RCM, and, alongside Helen, I’ve contributed to Respectful Relationships in the Maternity Service.

In 2022, I began a Master’s in Coaching at the University of Warwick, further deepening my expertise and commitment to this work.

Outside of coaching, I’m passionate about fitness, art and new experiences which I write about in my personal blog.
